Tick… Tick…. Tick….

by on Feb.28, 2012, under Politics

The Doomsday clock has been moved backwards as Mitt Romney holds off Santorum , the Liberal Media , and Democrats hopeful of a potential Santorum nomination. Whew!  Please let’s move away from who is more conservative to who is acceptable and able to beat Obama.

This has not been a good week for Santorum, and I believe  his momentum has faded.  I just don’t think he is presidential material. I hope that come next Tuesday  with the string of primaries, that the voters will show across the board that they want experience and economic know how, not someone who comes across as a strident social warrior.  If Santorum wants to get involved in these issues, let him run for Senate somewhere, or governor, or congress.

I can go to bed happy tonight knowing that Obama and his cronies are not as confident as they might have been. They will now likely have to defend their disastrous policies against someone who is infinitely smarter and more experienced than the president.   Good! Sleep tight!

Political Observations

by on Feb.28, 2012, under Politics

I was scrolling through the Sunday shows yesterday and stopped to watch Rick Santorum  get in a needlessly petty and shrill argument with David Gregory.  I personally find Gregory pompous, arrogant and very one sided, but Santorum has to do better on these shows.  He must know what they will be like and he rises to the bait every time. He comes off as defensive, his voice rises and he loses people in his minutia.  I was also shocked to hear him repudiate Kennedy’s  famous separation of church and state speech.  I know there are a lot of Santorum fans out there, but I really think he is starting to isolate himself with his rigidly dogmatic views. He has certainly not won me over.

The Sunday panel came on and   I was absolutely stunned to hear Kathleen Parker of the Washington Post  disparagingly refer to Mitt Romney as “like a Dork.” Wow, I guess the liberal intelligentsia has used up every other insulting word, that they have to resort to cheap vulgarities.  Of course, no one asked her to be civil, apologize or use a modicum of decorum referring to a former Governor and potential president of the United States.

I never cease to be amazed at what they think they can get away with. This from the party that has foisted upon us  Joe Biden, Harry Reed, Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer, and of course the all knowing and all perfect Barack Obama. Compared to this lot, Mitt Romney is superman. The time of reckoning is coming.  Obama is about to get hoisted on his own petard. The  alternative energy president will be crucified on high gas prices.

That brings me to the song of the day. I guess all the religion and politics discussion  is on my mind, and I kept thinking of a Johnny Cash song “When the Man Comes around.” Definitely Apocalyptic, Book Of Revelations kind of song, but great work by a music legend. It’s  got a powerful beat an unforgettable tune, and a chilling message.  What do you think?

Act of Valor

by on Feb.27, 2012, under Entertainment, Intelligence / National Security

Although there are lots of political items swirling around this weekend, I wanted to take this opportunity to recommend a movie that just opened :  Act of Valor.

I went to see it with my son on Saturday, and from the very beginning you are swept into the world of Navy Seals versus international terrorism.  The movie has more than its share of realism as many of the actors are active duty Seals.   Some of the typical Seal missions that are on display in the movie include :  High altitude/low opening (HALO) jumping; underwater insertion;  fast boat insertion; long range intelligence surveillance; target extraction;  and of course, lots of target elimination.

You get to see the kind of activities these warriors do for the country, and the toll it takes on their families. I am sure Hollywood/liberal  types will not appreciate this movie as it does not demean the military or make them out to be idiots. The bad guys are the bad guys: Russian mobsters; Chechen terrorists; Islamic fanatics; and  Mexican drug cartels. I don’t see any problem with that do you ?

I am happy to hear that this movie was number one at the box office this weekend. Granted the competition was not overly stiff, but it is still a good sign that most of the movie going public this weekend chose Act of Valor. Fair warning, the movie has lots of battle scenes that are VERY realistic,  and I think that is why the movie succeeds, It is not phony and shows combat to be what it really is : scary and bloody.  Right before the credits they scrolled the names of sixty- plus Seals who have lost their lives since 9/11. I am glad the film honored their sacrifice, and the sacrifice of their families.

I left the movie thankful we have such great people on our side doing the things most of us could never do.  If you see the movie, let me know what you think. I don’t believe you will be disappointed.
