Back Home: little changed

by Jim on May.31, 2010, under Intelligence / National Security, Politics, Travel

Arrived back in Colorado yesterday after a wonderful  family cruisevacation to Alaska.  It was my first time to our 49th state and I was awed by its beauty, grandeur and independent minded people.  They are pretty self reliant there and proud of it.  I listened to a talk given by Libby Riddle the first woman to win the Iditarod. Eighteen days of dogsledding from Anchorage to Nome in blizzard-like conditions. Made me feel like a real slouch! We stopped in  Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Anchorage and sailed through  Glacier bay.  If you have the chance, go; It will restore your faith in all things beautiful.

Now that I’m back I see that the oil spill is still not fixed, but the president  and his administration are still on top of it , as they have claimed to be from day one.  The only good news is that the press is gradually starting to wonder if this guy has the leadership abilities he claimed to have.  Maureen Dowd is mocking him, as is Bill Maher, and even democrat pundits such as Kirsten Powers are puzzled by his recent actions such as vacationing  in Chicago during the memorial day remembrance service at Arlington. He is also being buffeted by his hamhanded account  of the obvious bribe offer in  the Pennsylvania senate race. The situation in the middle east and asia could not be worse and the economy is not getting better. So where is the smartest president we ever had?

While I was away my friend Bob sent me this bit, a takeoff from the old Dragnet series. Joe Friday really says it all. .

Vacation

by Jim on May.20, 2010, under Uncategorized

Today the president of Mexico again criticized the Arizona immigration law and urged America to reinstitute  a ban on semi automatic weapons.  This time he did it from the House chamber in the Capitol. He was given  standing ovations by the democrat party . How disgraceful.  How can good people support the democrats anymore? This shameless assault on America in the halls of congress by a foreign leader is unconscionable.

While I’m at it, I read that the hearing for Elena Kagan is being rushed through and that it HAS TO begin on Jun 28th.  Why so fast? Clearly the administration  doesn’t  want there to be time to discover what she might have said.  In a related matter , the Clinton library archives, , where some of the few indications of her  thinking reside, indicated that it would be “very difficult ” to produce relevant documents before Jun 28th. Does that matter to the democrat leaders? No. They are insisting that there is plenty of time to examine Kagan before the magical Jun 28th date appears.

Friends this is outrageous. Can anyone give me one reason why Elena Kagan  is qualified to sit on the highest court in the land?  She is clearly not the smartest, most experienced, most well written, or most in touch withthe common man as Obama likes to say. So why is this  being being rushed through? Why the rush to judgement?

We need to insist that she be given a thorough review, and if that means waiting till July or August, then so be it… but no! It is obvious the administration does not want this too close to the election as the American people might remember what a shameless rush job this is.  If she is so good then lets see the evidence. Do you think they will wait? Perhaps a better question is will the republicans have the backbone to insist that this be delayed? It is a lifetime appointment and once in, we are stuck with her for decades.   Will anyone read the mood of the American public from recent elections. We DO NOT want business as usual. Stand up for your core beliefs. Forget political expediency and niceness or what the Washington Post or NY times might say. Be people of integrity and honor. Is that too much to ask?

Well, this past week has really gotten me angry about so many things. Fortunately, we had a family vacation scheduled for the week of 22-30 May: I think I need it.  As such,  I will be taking the week off to recharge and get ready for summer and the fall elections.  Stay well, have a happy Memorial day, and pray for our country.

Let’s knock America again

by Jim on May.19, 2010, under Uncategorized

I listened to the President of Mexico trash  the Arizona  immigration law today in Washington.  President Obama also trashed and misrepresented the law  today. Earlier in the week one of our assistant secretaries of state misrepresented and trashed the law as a human rights issue while in China of all places!  The Chinese joined in and criticized all the human rights violations in America.  What in Gods name is happening to our country? Doesnt anyone bother to defend America? I am so sick of Obama taking every chance he can to knock something about our country. He is unprepared to be president and his actions prove it. He is a committed ideologue bent on radically changing the system to fit his leftist vision. I watch with sadness as he mocks people and institutions as if he knows better. What a disaster he has turned out to be.  Just remember: November is coming.
