Hoisted on his own Petard

by Jim on Dec.14, 2009, under Politics

This article from the Times Online, shows what happens when a pompous, self aggrandizing, blowhard continues to play the world’s expert on climate change.  He is a charlatan and someone who finds it convenient to hide behind pseudo- scientific mumbo jumbo to confuse his eager followers. Me thinks however that the bloom is coming off the rose or the wheels are coming off the wagon. In any case, it is about time that the press is challenging the outrageous claims of this snake oil salesman. I hope it is not too late.

Inconvenient truth for Al Gore as his North Pole sums don’t add up

“There are many kinds of truth. Al Gore was poleaxed by an inconvenient one yesterday.

The former US Vice-President, who became an unlikely figurehead for the green movement after narrating the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, became entangled in a new climate change “spin” row.

Mr Gore, speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, stated the latest research showed that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years.

In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: “These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.”

However, the climatologist whose work Mr Gore was relying upon dropped the former Vice-President in the water with an icy blast.

“It’s unclear to me how this figure was arrived at,” Dr Maslowski said. “I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this.”

Mr Gore’s office later admitted that the 75 per cent figure was one used by Dr Maslowksi as a “ballpark figure” several years ago in a conversation with Mr Gore.”

Grave Danger

by Jim on Jan.28, 2009, under Intelligence / National Security, Politics

I woke up this morning feeling pretty good about things. I was rested and healthy , and the sun was shining.  Little did I realize what perilous straits I was in.  For in just an hour I would be told by the worlds biggest self promoter, Albert Gore Jr, that the earth was in grave danger.

I remember  grave danger from  the movie “A few good men” where Tom Cruise asks Jack Nicholson ( Col Jessup) if when he said danger, he meant grave danger. Nicholson responded ” Is there any other kind.” So with that chilling thought in mind, I listened as the former vice president spoke  about our climate crisis  and global warming while a snow and ice storm raged outside in Washington forcing the closing of the schools.

According to AG jr. ” We must face up to the urgent and unprecedented threat to the existence of our civilization.” I could hardly eat my corn flakes. He went on and said  that  “we shouldn’t be sidetracked by our financial crisis.”  Why not because that is real and actually matters?

He continued that  “we have arrived at a moment of decision.. a treaty MUST be negotiated this year.” Well , there went my good day.  I had better do my travelling now before it is too late. But just when i thought it was totally bleak, he mentioned that Hillary Clinton, our  gifted and super qualified Secretary of State, had appointed a ” special climate envoy”   in the State Department.   Well that gave me a wave of relief. We now have an envoy to climate. Thank God for the new administration. President Bush wouldn’t even talk to Iran so he would never talk to climate.

If you know where climate meets let me know, I would like to meet him or her. And if you don’t like your weather, the saying used to be wait 15 minutes and it will change. Now we can actually negotiate with climate like real people. God bless these democrats. They sure have their priorities in order.
