The “Show Me” State Makes News
by Jim on May.14, 2012, under Entertainment, Politics
I love it when Democrat’s go apoplectic. It is so refreshing to see the veins bulge in their necks when their self righteous issues get shot down. That happened today in the great state of Missouri.
OK, what do these people have in common: Walt Disney, Mark Twain, Sacajawea, Scott Joplin, Walter Cronkite, Harry Truman, Laura Ingalls, Bob Barker, and Rush Limbaugh? They are all members of the Missouri Hall of fame. Along with about two dozen others, each is a native son or daughter of the “Show Me State.” Today, Rush Limbaugh joined the list.
These people are known for their celebrity in many diverse areas: politics, entertainment, the arts, science etc. But the Democrats in Missouri will not acknowledge the celebrity and influence of a Rush Limbaugh, from Cape Girardeau. Whether you agree with him or not, he is beyond a doubt one of the most influential talk radio personalities ever. He probably revived AM radio with his talk format, and has become the most listened to radio personality in the country. Doesn’t that deserve some attention?
Sadly, the Missouri legislature had to present this honor in a closed session with Highway Patrol backup because of the fear of violence by womens groups and others. How truly sad. There can be no difference of opinion to these people. Everyone must tow the party line. Honest disagreements are not allowed on college campuses, in the media, or in politics without being deemed hateful.
We see this daily regarding very sensitive issues like gay marriage, abortion, Obamacare, and hate crimes legislation just to name a few. It is a fact that several women’s groups are attempting to drive Limbaugh off the air because of his comments to a 30 year old political activist, or as they like to call her, ”young female college student. ”
I enjoy the sarcasm, snarkiness and biting humor of his program. I also like South Park and Mad Magazine. Limbaugh is not for everyone; but until he went nationwide in 1987 , there was no outlet for conservatives in the media. He has spawned many imitators on the right, but interestingly, no one can achieve lasting success on the left. I wonder why that is?
In any case, congrats to the State of Missouri for having the political courage to recognize someone who has achieved success in his field. This will be a monumental election year and we need a variety of inputs. If the Democrat’s had their way, we would all be listening to NPR for our news and entertainment. Fresh Air; Diane Rehm; Afro Pop; Click and Clack? Wait wait don’t tell me? Now that is cruel and unusual punishment…don’t you think? And we are paying for it…. ARGGGH
Mitt Romney: Vampire Hunter
by Jim on May.13, 2012, under Politics
Last year we had the unforgettable picture of the President with bicycle helmet on, wearing long pants and sneakers, awkwardly riding a bicycle. The image was that of Pee Wee Herman. Compare that to Gerald Ford skiing; Ronald Reagan chopping wood; George Bush riding horses; Vladimir Putin doing anything; every French president having an affair with a mistress; Bill Clinton chasing anything with a skirt on etc. It is downright disheartening.
When I mentioned this to Pat, our webmaster for the blog, he added ”or Abraham Lincoln killing vampires!” How could I have forgotten the backstory of our sixteenth president? Clearly Obama is no Abraham Lincoln! If you are unfamiliar with the story, you are in luck as Hollywood will be releasing the movie this summer. I have attached a preview below to whet your appetite.
So take heart my friends. I have a good feeling that the clock is ticking on the final months of the Obama experiment. I am more and more impressed with Mitt Romney and think he has the talents of an Abraham Lincoln… perhaps even to the point of being a vampire hunter.
I think a key to the victory for Romney, though, will be whom he chooses to be his running mate. I have listed some of the more popular choices in the current month’s poll. I would be very interested in your preferences. Also, if the person you support is not listed, please send it along in a comment, and we will add it in. Have a great week, and watch out for the vampires
My Evolving Position
by Jim on May.10, 2012, under Politics
Well in spite of administrative snafu’s, bad timing, and miscommunication , we are back on line! Thank you for your patience. It was not a pleasant experience not being able to get this fixed quickly, and I appreciate your sticking with me.
Actually, it was probably good that we were down for three days, as my position on the president was evolving. As you know, I hate to rush to judgement on issues, and try to maintain a calm perspective. So I wanted to be sure I got this right.
I used to think that President Obama was unqualified and divisive. After his “evolutionary” statement of yesterday however, I now believe that he is hurtful , and utterly without conscience.
After doing an incredible soliliquy about the personal journey to his decision supporting gay marriage, he made his “Oracle at Delphi” pronouncement to a hand picked, fawning, Robin Roberts . He promised nothing to the gay community, and said it is a states rights issue. Wow, that really is a strong statement of support.
But the media lapdogs were there to praise the messiah. Robert’s talked about the chills she got being in the same room at such an “historic announcement. ” Even Shepherd Smith got caught up in this frenzy describing it as a ”Profiles in Courage ” moment. Incredible! Hollywood donors rushed to their checkbooks, the Oracle had announced his long awaited opinion! Thank God Sasha and Melia were there , as he said, to help him come to such a momentous turnaround, otherwise he might still be evolving. And to think Amy Carter got criticized for discussing thermonuclear war strategy with her father?
Yet what did he say? It is up to the states to decide… but he personally supports gay marriage. That’s it folks! So he leads the gay community along, garners laurel leafs from the left and promises nothing. Did he support the gay initiative in North Carolina? No. Has he supported any gay initiatives anywhere? No. Is he going to try and do anything in Washington? Nope. Is he cruelly attempting to play on the sensitivities and dreams of gay voters in the country? ABSOLUTELY.
His deception on this issue is classic. He supported gay marriage while in Chicago; was against it in the 2008 campaign; and now is for it again in 2012. For my gay friends, is this the kind of leader that you want? He is using you to get votes and money.
He said he was going to announce his evolving position later in the year… (really?) but that Joe Biden forced his hand. So he really hadn’t planned on doing this; he got caught in a political situation where he looked weak and indecisive . So for that reason, he makes his announcement. And we are to believe that this is a John F Kennedy moment? Give me a break.
I never liked this president, and like him even less now. Not for his opinion on gay marriage… I suspected that was his belief anyway; but for the cruel, hypocritical manner in which he is attempting to pick up the support of the gay community. Please do not fall for his trick. He will do whatever is necessary to get elected and that includes deceiving you . You deserve so much more than a disingenuous egotist.
