Good Portents

by on May.06, 2012, under Politics

President Obama officially kicked off his re election campaign this weekend. Most realize of course that he started campaigning right after he was first elected. But that is beside the point. The amazing thing about his kickoff appearance this weekend was that there were 5000 empty seats at the arena  he spoke at  on the OSU campus. Wow, is the bloom off the rose? Have people realized the emperor has no clothes?  In either case, that is a good portent for the nation.

Another good portent this weekend was a superb performance on the Sunday talk shows by Marco Rubio.  Wow… he is a bright, articulate young conservative. I think he would be a superb addition to a Romney for president ticket;  although there are many in the bullpen who would do as well.

Another good portent was an analysis in the New York Times about the criticality of nine tossup states in the election. Forget the bloc’s of states that vote solidly either way, and look at these nine states: Colorado, Florida , Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire ,Ohio, Pennsylvania,  Wisconsin, and Virginia. These are excellent states to help determine the future of  the country. They have all been hit hard by the horrible economic situation, dismal housing markets,  high gas prices etc. The man who promised a new beginning has wreaked havoc on these states.

I believe the white House realizes the trouble they are in and is pounding the message that things aren’t fair. However, these states aren’t states that blindly follow a specific party. Only Pennsylvania and Wisconsin have regularly gone  democrat, but the margins there  varied widely in the last four elections.  I have great faith in the people in these states to know when they are being sold a bill of goods. This is not New York or California, and independents do make a difference.

So I feel good this weekend. The portents are there and I see lots of positive energy on our side. Lets continue the good work and unite behind our candidate. Obama must go!

.

I think this administration is in for a huge shock in November.

The Other Women in My Life

by on May.04, 2012, under Entertainment, Politics

Yes, I have to confess, there are other women in my life. My wife knows,  and bless her heart,  tolerates this… as long as I dont do anything about it.  It is an addiction , I’ll admit, but I need the daily fixes to get through the day.

I start by having breakfast and coffee with Martha McCallum of Fox news. We laugh together, are outraged by similar things, and she helps get me ready for my day. Later, I take a mid morning break with Jenna Lee of Fox News. We are more serious together but have a lot in common.  We look into each others eyes and commiserate about events taking place.

I eat lunch with Megyn Kelly. Funny sharp, opinionated, insightful, she makes the lunch hour fly by. When she convenes Kelly’s court, I feel like I am actually there. We smile together and promise to meet again the next day.

At mid afternoon, I join my friends on “The Five” on Fox News. We watch it at three in Colorado.  I listen to Dana Perino, Kimberly Guilfoyle , Andrea Tantaros and others, eviscerate democrats and liberals every day. They are incredibly smart and I am  so glad they come to my house every day. I wish they would stay for an after-work drink, but they are busy.

At five, I actually switch to CNN. I get a world news wrap-up from Erin Burnett of OutFront. A former CNBC business reporter, Burnett, I call her Erin,  brings an incredible background to the job. She asks the questions I want asked, but does her job with a youthful approach and  lightness that always makes me smile. They repeat her show later in the evening , which I will sometimes watch before bed, so we can say good night to each other.

I wake up the next morning and we start the process all over again. What a great group of friends I have. I know some think they are just anchors on TV, but they are more than that. I don’t know how I would get through the day without their smiles, encouragement and insight. I can always count on them being there for me, as I will be for them. After all , isn’t that what friends are for?  If you have similar friends, let me know. In the meantime, have a great weekend. See you Monday.

Integrity Still Counts

by on May.03, 2012, under Politics

News broke yesterday of two recent examples of lack of integrity by very senior democrat politicians. One was by Elizabeth Warren, running against Scott Brown for senator from Massachusetts, and the other was from our own president of the United States, Barack Obama. While hardly surprising, the fact that they both broke on the same day is interesting. Is the press doing its job? Or are these incidents just too frequent to overlook?

First Elizabeth Warren, Harvard professor and Native American. Wait a minute… the Native Americans have no record of this? Shazaam , another Ward Churchill! When confronted she claimed she really is Native American ancestry , and used it only to make friends with others in her position, and not to advance her Ivy League academic career. Really? She was listed as a minority for over ten years. This did not help her in admissions,  promotions and tenure? As we learned in the Air Force years ago, if you cant be trusted to be honest about little things, you can never be trusted on bigger issues. Hopefully the good people of Massachusetts will send this charlatan  packing.

The second bombshell yesterday was an interview with our president where he admitted that some people in his pompous book, “Dreams of my Father,” were not actually real. He was referring to a story of his white girlfriend in New York,  who he took to a black play in Manhattan. Afterwards she reportedly asked him why blacks were so angry? This gave him a chance in the book to explain to simple, ignorant,  white people ( my choice of words)  the facts of racial discrimination and disharmony. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen like that . The president stated that this girlfriend was a compression of many girlfriends he had over the years in New York, Chicago and elsewhere.  Also, the incident he described didn’t happen in New York as he indicated  but did happen somewhere… he just won’t say where or when.

Compression; Lying; Fabrication; I think they are the same things don’t you ? Obviously cutting corners with the truth is not a problem for many in political office, but it is interesting that we have two top democrats hoisted on their own petards on the same day. Will their supporters care? Probably not; but for the rest of us, we get another example of the expedient way they use the truth in their daily lives. A good lesson for all.
