Before I get to the outrageous topic of the day, let me just say one thing about tonight’s republican debate: Santorum and Paul need to get out. They had their run; they made their points; now leave. I see no purpose for their continued agony.  I think Romney and Gingrich provide enough firepower against the president and certainly cover all spectra. Just my thought.

Did you read that a school board in Utah rejected a student poll that chose ” Cougars ” as the new school mascot? The Principal of the high school stated that it would be disrespectful  to women!!!! The article excerpt is below.

“The Canyons School District overrode the students top choice of a cougar mascot for their high school that is to be completed in 2013.

Would-be Corner Canyon High School students chose the Cougars as their mascot — a name principal Mary Bailey said carries an ugly connotation that is disrespectful to women”

Well I have to say this is the stupidest action of the year, and maybe last year too.  Of course, it brings to mind many other animals that are sure to be forbidden: Foxes, Fillies, Tigers, Cows, just to name a few. Honeybees are probably out;  Whales, Sharks, Barracudas?  Any dog reference is dead; and don’t even think the other references I know you are thinking about. They are really off limits!

How totally absurd. And if you really think about it from a feminist perspective, what’s wrong with cougars? Aren’t they liberated older women who are not afraid of their sexuality? I think this principal is perhaps a repressed cougar and the nickname strikes too close to home.

In any case, I think this issue needs to be readdressed. I for one will be thinking of new mascots  and nicknames for schools over the weekend.  If you think of any, please send them along.
