The Briber in Chief

by on Apr.23, 2012, under Politics

The president is coming to Boulder tonight to speak at the University of Colorado. Actually, he is coming to bribe students at the University of Colorado, as he is doing earlier in the day in North Carolina and Iowa.  He will tell them that their tuition is too high; interest rates on loans are too high; and that he, the government, will see to it that everyone should be able to attend college.  Money should not be an issue.

Well I’m not so sure about that. First, I don’t think everyone should go to college.  We need lots of people in trades and blue collar jobs and entry level positions  who don’t need to incur burdensome debt immediately.  Perhaps after several years in the real world some will decide to attend college. others might not. Clearly there are many for whom college is not even desired.

Secondly, those going to college should have a plan to pay the tuition; work it off, or take on a loan. That’s what we all did in the day, and what our children did.  That of course presupposes that a student will have an idea of what they want to do, and have that be a viable career. Not sure renaissance art and history, medieval music,  poly sci, or 19th century  British literature  are really salable these days. The same holds true for many in liberal arts. While I think a traditional liberal arts education is outstanding, there really has to be something at the end of the line. It is not my job or yours to support unemployed liberal arts grads out of work.

I wish the president would address job opportunities for people who are not interested in college rather than hyping the need to attend college on the public dime.  But that is not what  this bribery is all about. I only hope that the students will see this for the sham it is, and realize that when they put gas in their cars at almost four dollars a gallon that it is the briber in chief’s fault.  The bottom line is he  is out of airspeed and losing altitude fast. Not even the students should give him a pass.

The Buffett Rule

by on Apr.11, 2012, under Economy, Politics

“The President believes we should build an economy where everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same set of rules. That’s why he proposed the Buffett Rule, which will make sure people making more than $1 million pay at least the same percentage of their income as middle-class families do.”

The above piece of political tripe is from the White House web site as they continue their class warfare campaign on the American people.  It is so outrageous it is almost funny. However, people buy this sort of propaganda.  As one of my dear friends and regular readers said, they are the ISM’s: ignorant, stupid and maleducated. Unfortunately, the ISM’s vote.

The White House statement is insulting at face value and should cause anyone who strives to succeed in this country to take notice. This president is not about increasing opportunity; he is about income redistribution.

As my contribution to the debate, I would like to propose the Jim rule. If you have too much money and you want the government to spend it for you , please add a donation on your income taxes.  Voluntary donation forms will automatically be sent to Hollywood moguls, media execs, and liberal whiners. Also, with the Jim rule, everyone in America will pay something on income taxes. Maybe not much, but something. There is no such thing as a free lunch. We all need ‘Skin in the game”

Another facet of the Jim rule is that if you earn an income tax deduction, you take it. If there is a way to reduce taxes, by all means use it. I would rather you spend your money than the government. Look at the recent GSA debacle in Las Vegas to see how that goes.

Some people are worried that Obama is going to be reelected; Only if the American people fall for his class warfare schtick.  I have more faith in my fellow citizens than that, but we have to counteract the ISM’s or we’re toast.

Let the Battle Begin

by on Apr.10, 2012, under Politics

With today’s announcement by Rick Santorum that he is leaving the race, for all practical purposes, the Republican nominee is Mitt Romney. Perhaps not the perfect candidate, but a far sight better than Mr Obama. It is time now for all to come together and make sure that Obama is not reelected.

Perhaps Romney’s biggest challenge now is picking a suitable VP.  Fortunately, he has a plethora of great choices. From governors and senators and congressmen there are numerous solid, charismatic individuals available. In coming blogs I intend to look at them.  Hopefully he will be guided by wisdom and choose someone who is  well qualified to be president.

All we need do is look at who President Obama chose to see that he was never interested in the country, just his election. If anyone ever thought Joe Biden was presidential material, I would appreciate them letting me know. That was a throwaway choice and we are living in danger every day that this  incompetent man could be the president. For that reason alone Obama must be defeated. If he would do that just to get elected, what else will he do to ensure his legacy.

Congratulations Mr Romney and a hearty thank you to Mr Santorum.
